Learn to Skate Summer 2012

The Ice House Learn To Skate("LTS") program is ranked among the 10 best programs in the entire country by the United States Figure Skating Association. The LTS program consists of a comprehensive lesson and testing structure that is very exciting, rewarding, safe and fun. It has been a great success for many years and is a great way to learn how to skate and meet people. Whether your goal is to achieve Olympic fame or simply enjoy the recreational benefits of skating, the Ice House LTS program is the ideal thing for you.

We have proficiency levels ranging from Basic 1 to Basic 8. For our 4 and 5 year olds we offer a 3 level Tot program (called Snowplow Sam) to prepare them for our regular classes. We also offer Parent/Tot classes! The skater will learn various techniques such as stopping and turning, just to name a few.

Every week one of our designated testers will evaluate the kids to see if the skater is ready to advance to the next level. Once the skater has successfully passed a test, we will immediately move him/her to the next level and give them a certificate of achievement. No skater is held back in a class that is too easy for them.

Parents and children will be taught the very basics of skating using fun and interesting games and instructional techniques. (Parents only pay for rental.)

Tot and Children

4-5 years: Snowplow Sam 1 through 3 introduces preliminary moves to preschool age skaters not yet ready for Basic 1. (Skaters who graduate Snowplow Sam 3 move directly to Basic 2.)

6-14 years: Basic 1-8 carefully planned levels allow the beginning skater to feel comfortable on the ice while gaining the basic skating knowledge needed to advance into any of the next level of the program.

Adult

Saturday 10:30am and Sunday 10:30am (15 years & up)

Four levels of proficiency geared to the beginner adult ice skater.

General Information

• NO REFUNDS ONCE THE APPLICATION IS SUBMITTED.  payment for classes must be made with application to the Skating School Office.  ($25 charge for any returned checks.)
• CLASSES ARE CONFIRMED AT THE TIME OF REGISTRATION, unless otherwise notified.
• Maximum class size is 12-16 per class.  USFSA Testing will be done on a weekly basis.  placement decisions are at the sole discretion of the staff testers.
• Ice House reserves the right to cancel or change programs based on class availability.
• THERE ARE NO MAKE UP CLASSES.  Classes will not be altered due to school vacations, holidays, or inclement weather unless otherwise specified.  Absolutely no switching of days and times after the series has begun.
• WE ENCOURAGE ALL STUDENTS TO WEAR: HELMETS, WARM LOOSE CLOTHING, THIN SOCKS, AND GLOVES.

Program Includes

• One half hour of instruction, one half hour of practice.
• The annual USFSA Basic skills registration fee of $15.00 per skater includes: basic skills membership material. (July 1-June 30).
• Discount cards entitle holder to $1.00 off rentals & $1.00 off public session admission. (skate rentals - $3.00) There is a $2.00 charge for lost cards.

Applications accepted (space permitting) by phone, mail, fax, or walk in.

Summer Hockey Clinics 20112

Learn to Skate Clinic

7 week program for $100 Introduction to skating on hockey skates for boys and girls with no previous skating experience. A hockey helmet with cage is required to participate. Elbow pads and knee pads are suggested. Rental skates are included for this clinic.

Learn to Play Hockey Clinic

7 week program for $195 All clinics will be broken down into 3 skill level groups: beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Players will have the opportunity to advance to a higher skill level group based on the coach's evaluation of their improvement. Sessions will consist of 45 minutes of skill development followed by a 15 minute cross-ice game. A jersey is included with this clinic. Full hockey equipment is required. rental skates are available.
Thirsdays	7/12/12-8/23/12	530pm-630pm	Ages 13 & Under

Hockey Learn to Skate is an introduction to skating on hockey skates for boys and girls with little or no previous skating experience. A hockey helmet with cage is the only equipment required. Rental skates are included for this clinic only. Skaters are recommended to wear warm clothes, kneepads, and warm gloves. This clinic will work on the basics of skating stride, balance, and agility to give the skaters confidence on the ice.

Learn to Play Hockey is broken down into 3 skill level groups, beginner, intermediate, and advanced. Players have the opportunity to advance to a higher skill level group, based on the coach’s evaluation of their improvement. Sessions will consist of 30 minutes of power skating & 30 minutes of stick skills. Full hockey equipment is required. Skaters will continue to work on their skating skills while gaining confidence in stick handling, passing, and shooting. This clinic is designed to prepare players for league play as well as a compliment to league play. We recommend that players continue to use the clinics to improve their skills after joining the youth league.

Specialty Clinics

At different points during the year the Hockey Office offers specialized clinics that focus on specific areas of the game and position specific clinics. Some of these offerings include Goalie Clinics, run by our goalie coaches, Defensemen Clinics, Power Skating & Stick handling Clinics, and Travel Player Clinics, designed for the more advanced players. These clinics are designed to improve individual skills in a more intense setting and provide coaching in specific areas.

Ice House is proud to present its 15^th Annual Summer Hockey Camp under the direct supervision of Dan May, Ice House Hockey Director. 25 hours of ice time in one week makes this camp the ideal place for all hockey players to elevate their game in a fun and enjoyable atmosphere. Brian May, Jeff Auger, Ryan Gibbons, Glenn Carlough, all part of our Avalanche coaching staff, are back as our most dedicated lead instructors. Our Hockey Day Camp is recommended for players’ 5-13 years of age. Full hockey equipment is required for all on-ice programs.

Hockey Youth App Team Spring 2012

MITE, SQUIRT, PEEWEE, BANTAM, MIDDLE/JV, HIGH SCHOOL

• Season Length: April 14- June 28, 2012 (no games 5/26-28)  ●   Enrollment Deadline – MARCH 21, 2012
• 12 regular season games, plus playoffs. Teams that compete in the championship games will receive an award
• Game schedules will be available on our website April 3^rd
• High School League – NO FIGHTING TOLERATED

Team Applicants will receive 1 pre-season practices (first come first served with team deposit). Scheduling requests must accompany application; requests will be considered but cannot be guaranteed. Teams must supply their own coaches and jerseys. A $2,000.00 deposit must accompany team application by March 21, 2012. The balance is due by May 1, 2012.

Avalanche Cross Ice League Spring 2012

ATOM-6 & Under / MITE-8 & Under

Our Avalanche House League plays cross-ice games to introduce the fundamentals of ice hockey to the novice player. By dividing the rink into three smaller rinks/games the players have more fun and develop faster.  Each child becomes more involved in the play and has increased opportunities to touch the puck. The emphasis in this league is on skill development and fun. Rosters will be flexible, no scores or standings will be recorded.

Ages: Players born in 2003 and younger

• Season Length: April 15^th – June 24^th  (No session on 5/27/12)
• Game Day & Time: Sundays at 11:30 AM -12:30 PM
• Jersey Distribution: April 15^th at 11:00 AM.
• Games begin on April 15^th at 11:30 AM

Ice House Youth Hockey Program

The Ice House runs hockey programs for all ages and abilities. With professional instructors led by Hockey Director Dan May, the Ice House is recognized as the finest facility in the area and the place to play great hockey. For the young beginner we offer primary clinics, which cover the basics of skating and fundamental hockey skills as well as summer camps, clinics and leagues.

Our summer camps are designed for all ages 5 through 18 and players of all abilities. These week long camps cover everything from skating stride technique to game situation skills. Day camps and evening specialized mini camps are available in July and August.

The Greater Bergen County Adult Ice Hockey league provides a place to play for players 18 years old and above of any ability. Our league is split into 8 divisions to ensure a level playing environment for everyone. Our Division 1 features some of the areas best adult hockey players, while our Division 8 provides an avenue for beginner players to hone their skills. Weekly standings and scoring leaders are updated regularly here during the season.

The league offers 3 seasons of play

• Fall/Winter: September-March
• Spring: April-June
• Summer: July-August

Applications are accepted as individuals as well as team entries and are divided based on past experience or previous team records. We also offer Beginner clinics for players to prepare for league play or supplement their league schedule. Clinics typically run for 2-3 months in the fall or early spring

If you or your team is looking for a place to play look no further than the Ice House, our leagues are professionally run and very competitive. Our average of 64 teams speaks for itself.

Hockey Program Mission Statement

The Ice House Adult League is designed to provide a safe and sportsmanlike environment in which hockey players of all abilities can enjoy the competition and camaraderie of organized hockey. The Ice House Adult League is based upon respect for one's opponent, the officials, and the game. A cooperative effort between the league, its players, its teams and its officials is essential in creating an atmosphere conducive to fair play and the well being of all participants. By offering multiple levels of competition the league provides an appropriate venue for every adult player and/or team desirous of recreational play.

The Ice House Adult League does not embrace a "win at all costs" attitude. It is not the appropriate venue for venting one's personal frustrations, nor is it a league for "enforcers", antagonizers or for those whose intensity level does not allow them to adhere to the aforementioned ideals. It is also not the league in which to enter your team in a lower division than your skill allows.

The Ice House values its customers who have made its adult league the largest of its kind in the country. The league thanks those of you who are currently playing in the spirit of the league and we would ask everyone who plays here to strive toward that end.

About the Ice House Figure Skating Team

The Ice House is a year round training facility designed to meet the needs of beginners to Olympic Champions. Our primary goal is to assist skaters in reaching their maximum potential. Opened in 1996 complete with four ice surfaces and a 7,500 sq. ft. off ice training facility, the Ice House is one of the largest training facilities of its kind. Training National, World and Olympic Medalists, the Ice House has created an environment that is able to accommodate the needs of skaters in every capacity with one of the biggest learn to skate programs in the country and World-Class training for both beginners and international skaters.

The Ice House has been home to 2002 Olympic Champion, Sarah Hughes, 2002 Olympic Champion Elena Berezhnaya and Anton Sikharulidze, 1998 Olympic Champions Oksana Kazakova and Artur Dmitriev, World Silver Medalist Sasha Cohen, 3-time National Pairs Champions Kyoko Ina and John Zimmerman, 5-time National Dance Champions Naomi Lang and Peter Tchernychev and many other internationally acclaimed skaters.

We offer 16 hours of ice time daily for singles, pairs and dancers.
