| North Jersey Avalanche Midget 16 AAA National Team Wins NAHL Future Prospects Tournament |
| North Jersey Avalanche completes successful Mid-West swing with Minnesota ChampionshipWith only one game under their belt, the NJ Avalanche flew to Detroit to face some of the country’s top teams. After stubbing their toe in game one, they ran off three straight victories beating the Minnesota Selects, Belle Tire, and the Chicago Fury. Coach May stated "the trip was a success despite the fact that the team didn't qualify for the Championship round based on a tie breaker that came down to 1/100 of a percentage point. Over the course of the weekend we played in front of over 150 scouts from prep schools, Junior A teams, College, and the NHL. I would like to think that nearly every player on our roster is now on someone's radar, with the high end guys on multiple lists."After being home for just three days, and squeezing in a couple practices the team was back on the plane; this time to Minnesota. The North American Future Prospects Tournament is one of the biggest events of the season and according to tournament staff, had 380 scouts in attendance. "Pretty much every D 1, D 3 college, USHL, NAHL, and National Hockey League team scouts were present. I've been coaching for 30 years and I have to say, the last two years this is the most impressive event I have ever seen. You can't buy a cup of coffee without spilling it on a scout" said Coach May.The team played six games, winning five including semi-final victory over Team Carolina who is a strong favorite to represent the South east at the USAH National Championships. The semi final win resulted in the Avalanche facing previously undefeated Team Wisconsin in the championship. " For the most part it was a pretty even game between two solid teams with different styles of play,” said Coach May. We were the better team today but I think if we played them in a seven game series it would take one of the teams seven games to win. This game was basically a war". A war which ended with the Avalanche taking the Championship back to NJ with a 4-1 victory, based on a solid team effort from all players. After a couple of well deserved days off the team will begin preparing for league play and their next Showcase event in New Hampshire in mid-October. Congratulations to the team and coaching staff on their North American Future Prospects 2010 Championship. |
